Afghan hound (species)

Japanese: アフガン･ハウンド[種]（英語表記）Afghan hound

A hunting dog that originated in Afghanistan (illustration). It is believed to have originated in the mountainous region of the Sinai Peninsula. It is one of the ancient dog breeds that existed from 4000 to 3000 BC, and there is also a legend that it is the "dog of Noah's Ark." It is a medium-sized breed, standing 60 to 70 cm tall and weighing 23 to 30 kg. It was a hunting dog of ancient nobility, known as a brave knight, with excellent agility and able to roam rugged mountainous regions and deserts. It was first introduced to Western Europe after World War I, when soldiers of the British Army brought it back with them.

原産地がアフガニスタンの獣猟犬（イラスト）。シナイ半島の山岳地帯が発祥地と推察されている。前4000‐前3000年の昔から存在した古代犬種の一つで，〈ノアの箱舟の犬〉という伝説もある。体高60～70cm，体重23～30kgの中型種。荒れた山岳地帯や砂漠を軽快に飛び回り，敏捷性の優れた，古代貴族の狩猟犬で，勇敢な騎士と称された。第1次世界大戦後，イギリス陸軍の将兵らが連れ帰って初めて西欧に紹介された。
