Li-bai-wen-shu (Li-paiwên-shu)

Japanese: 李柏文書 - りはくもんじょ(英語表記)Li-bai-wen-shu; Li-paiwên-shu
Li-bai-wen-shu (Li-paiwên-shu)
These were obtained in 1909 by Tachibana Zuicho of the Otani Expedition at "Haitou" near Loulan on the shores of Lake Lop Nor. These are two drafts of Chinese missives written by Li Bo, the Chief Cleric of the Western Regions who worked under Zhang Jun (324-346), the fourth ruler of Former Liang (→ Liang), one of the Five Barbarians and Sixteen Kingdoms, to send to Long Xi, King of Yanqi, around the third year of Xianhe (328) of the Eastern Jin Dynasty. There are several dozen other fragments. They are important as fundamental historical materials that support and supplement published historical materials in elucidating the political situation and historical geography of the Western Regions at that time. They are also considered valuable in terms of the history of Chinese calligraphy. The two complete copies are designated as Important Cultural Properties of Japan. Owned by Ryukoku University.
