British military commentator. Served in World War I and was wounded, and retired as a captain in 1927. Served as a military reporter and editorial adviser for the Daily Telegraph and The Times, and published many military theories on air power and tank warfare, and is known as the founder of armored warfare. His ideas were more accepted by the German Army than by his own Army, and became the basis for the German Army's successful blitzkrieg in the early stages of World War II. Served as an advisor to the Minister of War in 1937-38, and participated in the modernization and mechanization of the British Army just before the outbreak of war. During and after the war, he devoted himself to writing and contributed to the development of modern war theory.
