1792‐1868 A Confucian scholar from the late Yi Dynasty in Korea. His pen name was Ersun and his pen name was Hwaseo. He was born in Yanggeun County, Gyeonggi Province. He was an admirer of Zhu Xi (the son) and Song Siyeol, and developed a strong pro-Sino-Yi ideology. After the fall of the Ming Dynasty (China), he believed that Korea was the only small China, and in response to the penetration of Catholicism and the demands from Europe and the United States to open the country, he advocated the idea of protecting the righteous and expelling the evil, and advocated the expulsion of foreigners. His pro-war views played an ideological role in supporting the isolationist and expulsion of foreigners policy of the Daewongun government, and he was appointed as the vice-president of the Ministry of Engineering, the assistant minister of the Ministry of Engineering, and the commissioner of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
