A Confucian scholar from the late Yi Dynasty in Korea. His pen name was Ersun and his pen name was Hwaseo. He was born in Yanggeun County, Gyeonggi Province. He was an admirer of Zhu Xi (the son) and Song Siyeol, and developed a strong pro-Sino-Yi ideology. After the fall of the Ming Dynasty (China), he believed that Korea was the only small China, and in response to the penetration of Catholicism and the demands from Europe and the United States to open the country, he advocated the idea of protecting the righteous and expelling the evil, and advocated the expulsion of foreigners. His pro-war views played an ideological role in supporting the isolationist and expulsion of foreigners policy of the Daewongun government, and he was appointed as the vice-president of the Ministry of Engineering, the assistant minister of the Ministry of Engineering, and the commissioner of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

朝鮮，李朝末期の朱子学者。字は而述，号は華西。京畿道楊根郡の生れ。朱熹(子)と宋時烈に傾倒し，強烈な華夷思想を形成した。明(中華)の滅亡後は，朝鮮が唯一の小中華であるとする立場から，天主教(カトリック)の浸透や欧米の開国要求に対して衛正斥邪（えいせいせきじや）論をとなえ，攘夷論を主張した。彼の主戦論は大院君政権の鎖国攘夷政策をイデオロギー面から支える役割を果たしたため，同副承旨，工曹参判，同義禁などに任じられた。
