Liepa, Maris-Rudolph Eduardovich
Born: July 27, 1936 in Riga
[Died] March 25, 1989. Moscow Soviet dancer. After graduating from the Bolshoi Ballet School in 1955, he worked at the Riga Ballet and the Stanislavsky Nebilovich-Danchenko Theatre Ballet before joining the Bolshoi Ballet in 1960. A unique dancer, he was highly praised for his performances in Giselle and Don Quixote, and especially for his role as Crassus in Spartacus. In 1967, he performed M. Fokine's Der Rose-Fairy with N. Besmertnova. In 1969, he was awarded the Lenin Prize and the title of People's Artist of the USSR. His son Andris (September 6, 1962- ) is also an excellent dancer who is active in Europe and the United States.
