Job - 'îyôbh' (Hebrew)

Job - 'îyôbh' (Hebrew)

He is the protagonist of the Book of Job in the Old Testament. According to the Book of Ezekiel in the Old Testament, he is counted among the three representative righteous people along with Noah and Daniel (14:14, 20). In the Book of Job, Job was a righteous man, but he was tempted by Satan, lost all his possessions, his family, and his health, and cursed his own life. In response, Job's friends advise him to repent, saying that his misfortune is the result of sin. However, Job is further troubled by his friends' common-sense persuasion based on the idea of retribution, and he searches for the source of God's righteousness. This anguish reflects that of the Jewish people, who were exiled from their country and dispersed.
