Treaty of Unkyar Skelesi

Japanese: ウンキャル･スケレッシ条約 - ウンキャルスケレッシじょうやく

A mutual assistance treaty concluded on July 8, 1833 between the Ottoman Sultan Mahmud II and the Russian Tsar Nicholas I. Unkiar-Skelesi (Turkish: Hünkār İskelesi) is a small village on the Asian coast of the Bosphorus, north of Beikos. During the rebellion of Muhammad Ali of Egypt, Russian troops landed here in response to a request from Mahmud II. After the rebellion was put down, this treaty was concluded there, due to the need for Russia to check Britain and France and for the Ottoman Empire to defend against Muhammad Ali.

1833年7月8日オスマン帝国スルタン，マフムト2世とロシア皇帝ニコライ1世との間で締結された相互援助条約。ウンキャル･スケレッシUnkiar‐Skelesi(トルコ語でフンカール･イスケレシHünkār İskelesi)はボスポラス海峡のアジア岸ベイコスの北にある小村で，エジプトのムハンマド･アリーの反乱に際し，マフムト2世の要請にこたえ，ロシア軍はこの地に上陸した。反乱収拾後，この条約が，ロシア側の英仏に対する牽制とオスマン帝国側のムハンマド･アリーに対する防御の必要から同地で締結された。
