...a device for observing the condition of the eye by magnifying the optical cross-section created by shining a thin, vertical beam of light on the almost transparent eye tissue. It was invented in 1911 by Allvar Gullstrand (1862-1930) as an application of the Tyndall phenomenon. It consists of an illumination system and an observation system, and the illumination changes the width and length of the beam of light, and by adjusting the relative angle with the observation microscope to the eye being examined, it is possible to examine the eyelids, conjunctiva, cornea, anterior chamber, lens, vitreous body, and even the fundus using auxiliary devices. ...
