Yudanaka [Hot Spring] - Yudanaka

Japanese: 湯田中[温泉] - ゆだなか

This hot spring is located in Yamanouchi Town, Shimotakai District, northeastern Nagano Prefecture. It is a pure saline spring, 49-97°C. It is a representative hot spring of the Yamanouchi Onsen Village, which consists of 14 hot springs, including Shin-Yudanaka Onsen (pure saline spring, 74-97°C) and Hoshikawa Onsen (weak saline spring, 70°C), lined up on the plateau on the north bank of the Yomase River flowing from Shiga Kogen. It is said to have been discovered by the monk Chida during the reign of Emperor Tenchi. It has long been popular with travelers on the Kusatsu Kaido road and those visiting Zenkoji Temple. There are six public baths, including Oyu and Takinoyu. Nearby, there are the Katei Bunko Library, which displays works by the local painter Kodama Katei, as well as Heiwa Kannon, Issado, and the Sakuma Shozan Monument, making it a base for sightseeing in Shiga Kogen.

長野県北東部，下高井郡山ノ内町にある温泉。純食塩泉，49～97℃。志賀高原から流れる夜間瀬（よませ）川北岸の台地上に並ぶ新湯田中温泉(純食塩泉，74～97℃)，星川温泉(弱食塩泉，70℃)など14温泉からなる山ノ内温泉郷を代表する温泉で，天智天皇のころ僧知田の発見といわれる。古くから草津街道の往来者や善光寺参りの人々に親しまれてきた。大湯，滝ノ湯など6ヵ所に共同浴場がある。付近には，この地出身の画家児玉果亭の作品を展示する果亭文庫や平和観音，一茶堂，佐久間象山碑などがあり，志賀高原観光の基地ともなっている。
