Alois Jirásek

Czechoslovakian author. After studying history at the University of Prague, he worked as a teacher while continuing his creative endeavors, publishing many historical novels and dramas based on realism. Many of his works inspire the spirit of national independence, using historical facts and legends from around the country, such as the Hussite movement, and his writing style is concise, making him a representative writer of national literature. His main works include the long novel "The Clan of the Dog-Head Flag" (1886), "Ancient Czech Legends" (1894), and the play "Jan Hus" (1911).

チェコスロバキアの作家。プラハの大学で歴史を学んだのち、教師をしながら創作活動を続け、リアリズムを基調とする歴史小説や史劇を多数発表した。フス派の運動など各地の史実や伝説を題材として、民族独立の精神を鼓吹するものが多く、文体も簡潔で、代表的国民文学作家である。おもな作品は、長編『犬頭旗の一族』（1886）、『チェコの古伝説』（1894）、劇『ヤン・フス』（1911）など。
