Aṅgad (English spelling) Angad

...This fraternalism seems to have been greatly influenced by Islam. The second guru, Angad Aṅgad (1504-52), adopted the Gurmukhi script, which is unique to the Punjab region, in order to faithfully record the words of Guru Nanak. Since then, the Sikh scriptures have been written in this script.
