Ethnic clothing - Minzokufuku

Japanese: 民族服 - みんぞくふく

A general term for the common style of clothing worn by ethnic groups who live in roughly the same area, share language, religion and other cultural elements, and have a sense of autonomous solidarity. When the perception of clothing is based on a time difference, it is generally called historical clothing, and when it is based on a spatial or regional difference, it is called ethnic clothing. In times when transportation and information systems were underdeveloped, there were different types of clothing that were a combination of the specific climate and customs of the people living in a limited area. However, these regional characteristics have gradually been lost with the modernization of civilization and international exchange, and today they are becoming simply ceremonial or formal clothing, or for tourists.

ほぼ同一地域に居住し，言語，宗教その他の文化的諸要素を共有し，自律的な連帯感をもつ種族的集団の着用する共通した服型の総称。服装の認識が時間的差異の関係におかれるとき，それは一般に歴史服といい，空間ないし地域的差異の関係におかれるとき，それは民族服と呼称される。交通，情報機関の未発達な時代には，そこに住む人々の，限られた地域での特定風土と習俗の結合から成るそれぞれ異なった服飾が存在した。しかし，こうした地域的特性は，文明の近代化と，国際交流につれて次第に失われてきており，今日では単なる儀礼服や晴れ着，もしくは観光用と化しつつある。
