Root rot disease

Japanese: 紋羽病 - もんぱびょう（英語表記）root rot

This is a plant disease caused by a type of true fungus that parasitizes the roots, and there are two types, purple and white. Infected trees form a mycelium at the soil edge that is purple-brown in the case of purple root rot, and grayish-white or grey in the case of white root rot. Both diseases are soil-borne and occur nationwide, and are multiply-transmitted, with host plants including mulberry, as well as over 100 species of purple root rot fungus and over 70 species of white root rot fungus. It occurs sporadically on mulberry trees in reclaimed land, but becomes chronic as the fields mature. The common term "root rot disease" refers to purple root rot disease.

真正菌の一種が根に寄生する植物の病気で，紫と白の2種がある。罹病樹は地際部に，紫紋羽は紫褐色，白紋羽は灰白色ないしねずみ色の菌糸膜を形成する。いずれも土壌伝染で全国的に発生し，多犯性で寄主植物は桑のほか，紫紋羽病菌が百余種，白紋羽病菌は七十余種に及んでいる。開拓地で桑などに激発するが，熟畑化するにつれ慢性化する。普通紋羽病というのは紫紋羽病をさす。
