Mobil [company] - Mobil
Mobil Oil is the holding company for Mobil Oil Corp., one of the major oil companies, the second largest in the United States and the fourth largest in the world. Mobil Oil was established in 1911 through the division of Standard Oil and is responsible for the refining and sales of petroleum and natural gas in North America. The majority of the company's profits come from Mobil Oil. Other subsidiaries include Mobil Chemical, which produces and sells petrochemical products, and Mobil Oil of Japan. The company is engaged in the exploration and development of petroleum and natural gas on a global scale, refining and selling the products. It also focuses on the chemical sector, including plastics. In 1999, it was acquired and merged with Exxon, the number one oil company in the United States, and the new company, Exxon Mobil, became the world's leading oil company.
