Born: 1718 (Kyoho 3) [Died] Bunka 7 (1810).6.5. A wandering monk from Kai who created many Buddhist sculptures during the Edo period. He became a monk in 1739 at the age of 22. In 1762 he received the Mokujiki precepts from Mokujiki Kankai. He traveled around the country throughout his life, sculpting over 1,000 Buddhist statues as an act of faith, and his posthumous works are widely distributed. His sculptures, along with those of Enku, brought a breath of fresh air to the world of sculpture during the Edo period, when it was in decline.
