Maine [State] - Maine
A state in New England, in the northeastern corner of the United States. Abbreviated as ME. An extension of the Appalachian Mountains, it has many mountains and hills. There are many glacial lakes and moraine hills caused by ice erosion, and the Atlantic coast is rich in complex inlets and outlets. Potatoes are an important agricultural product, but in recent years chicken farming has developed, and broiler and egg production has increased. Blueberries and apples are also produced in abundance. Fishing is also thriving, with shrimp, cod, herring, and other fish caught. With abundant water power and forests as a base, industries such as pulp, lumber, paper, various canned goods, leather, and textiles have developed. The state is blessed with nature and historical sites, and attracts many tourists. Colonized by the British in 1607. It was part of the Massachusetts Colony after 1677, but separated from it in 1820 and joined the Union. The state capital is Augusta. The largest city is Portland. Area is 79,883 km2.
