Photoresist

Japanese: photoresist
Photoresist

...Because it is suitable for forming high-precision patterns on thin films such as evaporated films, it is often used in the field of microlithography, such as in the manufacturing process of integrated circuits.
When a thin coating is applied with light energy, a chemical change occurs, making it insoluble in certain solvents (negative type), while light energy decomposes it, making it soluble in certain solvents (positive type). A pattern can be formed by exposing it to light through a photographic original. The remaining coating is resistant to processing of the substrate, and protects that area during processing.
