〘名〙① 中世・近世、家臣でありながら知行・給地を与えられていない者。また、所領・財産がない貧しい者。無足衆。無足。〔日葡辞書（1603‐04）〕※葉隠（1716頃）一「是を取迦(とりはず)して無足人に罷成(まかりなる)事は不忠」② 江戸時代、軽輩の士分で知行地がなく扶持給米を受ける者。身分的には知行取の給人の下、足軽・卒の上に位置する。※俳諧・笈日記（1695）中「袖にかなぐる前髪の露〈芭蕉〉咲花に二腰はさむ無足人〈露川〉」③ 江戸時代、準士分の上層の農民をいう。
