〘名〙[一]① 詩歌や俳句の会で、いくつかの題を出し、各人がくじで探り取った題によって詩歌をよむこと。さぐりだい。※散木奇歌集(1128頃)春「同じ殿下にて、探題の歌よませ給ひけるに、桜をとりてよめる」 〔王建‐送韋処士老舅詩〕② 法会の論議の時、論題を選定し、問答の可否を判定する役の僧。探題博士ともいう。題者。※貞信公記‐抄・延長五年(927)九月一日「基継律師辞探題」[二] 中世、幕府の要職名。探題職。① 鎌倉幕府の執権・連署と六波羅探題・鎮西探題(ちんぜいたんだい)をいう。※沙汰未練書(14C初)「探題 探題者、関東者両所、京都には六波羅殿を云也」② 室町幕府の遠国職。遠隔の要地に置いてその地方の政務・訴訟・軍事をつかさどった。九州探題・奥州探題・羽州探題などがある。※太平記(14C後)一「又永仁元年より、鎮西に一人の探題(タンダイ)を下し、九州の成敗を司しめ」

〘他ヤ下二〙 (ハ行下二段動詞「たんだふ」から転じて、室町時代頃から用いられた語。多くの場合、終止形は「たんだゆる」の形をとる) =たんだえる(探題)〔日葡辞書(1603‐04)〕※浄瑠璃・加賀国篠原合戦(1728)三「久し振の娘が顔、見て腹立る親心、根をたんだゆればかはいひから」

さぐり‐だい【探題】

〘名〙 歌の会などで、人々が題をくじびきで決めて、歌を詠むこと。たんだい。※金葉(1124‐27)冬・二五九・詞書「御前にて殿上のをのこどもさぐり題して哥つかうまつりけるに」
