...Typical examples include a trickster who uses trickery to steal fire or food from the hiding places of monsters, old women, or gods, and brings it to human society; a man who pretends to be dead and disguises himself as another person to have sex with his own daughter; a man who stretches out his huge penis and has sex with a woman on the other side of a river, only for a fish to bite it off and shrink it to normal size; a man who tricks two blind men who live together happily into fighting, and then eats all of their food while they are distracted; a man who learns a special skill, such as removing an eye, but fails because he ignores the restriction that he must not perform the skill more than a certain number of times. There are many stories of the same type in various parts of Africa, in which a spider, a turtle, a hare, or a god such as the Yoruba Eshu plays an active role as a trickster. For example, a typical Yoruba story about Eshu goes like this...
