Kraevskii (1810-89), and from the end of 1939 to the beginning of 1946, Belinsky was in charge of criticism, and many Western commentators wrote for it. From 1968, it was effectively edited by NA Nekrasov, Saltykov-Shchedrin, and Grigori Z. Eliseev (1821-91), and after Nekrasov's death (1877), Mikhailovsky joined. After the discontinuation of "The Modern Man," it became the leading progressive magazine, and played the role of a legal organ of Narodnikism in the 1970s and 1980s. ...
