Perpetual snow (English spelling) firn; névé

Japanese: 万年雪 - まんねんゆき（英語表記）firn; névé

Snow that remains all year when the amount of snow that melts in summer is less than the amount of snowfall in winter. In high mountains such as the polar regions, the Himalayas, and South America, the perpetual snow that accumulates year after year melts and freezes repeatedly to become glaciers. The lower limit at which perpetual snow can form on high mountains is called the snow line. In Japan, perpetual snow can be found on Mount Fuji, Mount Tateyama, Mount Gassan, and Mount Chokai, but all of these are caused by topographical conditions.
