A former town in Chiisagata County, south of Ueda City, in central Nagano Prefecture. The main settlement developed as a village at the mouth of the Yoda River, a tributary of the Chikuma River, and became known as a silk-reeling area after the Meiji period. Industries of machine parts, metals, and electronics are carried out here. Uchimura Onsen is located to the west. In March 2006, it was incorporated into Ueda City along with Sanada Town and Takeshi Village in Chiisagata County. 105.70 km2 . Population 24,577 (2003).
