Let's say you solve an equation and get the answer x = . This is fine in mathematics, but when you use the result to make a workpiece, you may need to cut the material to this length. In this case, it would be more realistic to get the answer 1.4142 m. In this way, even if the answer is given as a mathematical formula, the technique of trying to get the solution numerically is called numerical calculation. Also, for example, there is no way to solve an algebraic equation of degree 5 or higher if the coefficients are given arbitrarily, but by using numerical calculation, you can get an approximate solution that is close to the true solution.
