Eyelids - Eyelids

Japanese: まぶた(瞼) - まぶた
Eyelids - Eyelids
Also called the eyelid. A fold that covers the front of the eyeball from above and below. It develops in vertebrates above amphibians. In animals other than mammals, only the lower eyelid moves and closes. In humans, it is covered on the outside by skin and on the inside by the palpebral conjunctiva, between which are the orbicularis oculi muscle, which moves the eyelid, the levator palpebrae superioris muscle, and a cartilage plate called the tarsal plate. It protects the eyeball and spreads tears over the entire surface of the cornea. Eyelashes grow on the edge, and there is often a groove parallel to the edge, creating a double eyelid.
