A samurai family from the end of the Warring States period. There are various theories about their origins, including Awa, Nishioka, Yamashiro, and Ioju, Settsu, but all of these are based on oral tradition and are unknown. However, it is almost certain that Matsunaga Hisahide's uncle and grandmother, Myosei, was from Harima. Around 1533-34 (Tenbun 2-3), Hisahide became Miyoshi's right-hand man, and in 1542 he entered Minamiyamashiro as a military commander. His younger brother Nagayori was blessed with military talent, and in 1549, when Nagayoshi entered Kyoto, he was put in charge of controlling the Yamashina and Otsu areas, and in 1553, he captured Yagi Castle in Tanba and was given control of the entire province of Tanba, and succeeded the Naito family as shugodai.
