A pond built in Takaichi County, Yamato Province. It is believed to be located southwest of Kumedera Temple in Kashihara City, Nara Prefecture, and some of the remains of the bank remain. A bank was built in a basin surrounded by hills, and the Takatori River was dammed up to create a pond. The bank remains are about 8m high and 15m wide at the base. The area is estimated to have been around 40ha. According to the Masudaike Inscription and Preface, written by Kukai at the time of completion, in 822 (Kōnin 13), Fujiwara no Mikami and Ki no Suenari planned to build a pond to prepare for droughts and promote land reclamation, and with permission from Emperor Saga, they began construction with Kukai's disciple Shinen.
