Since the role of the director is central in ensemble theater, many directors such as G. Craig, M. Reinhardt, E. Piscator, V. Meyerhold, A. Tairov, A. Artaud, and J.-L. Barraud have attempted various experiments and emphasized the comprehensive nature of theater.
