The amount of material present underground down to the earth's crust. Usually refers to the amount of resources, and depending on the quality of the resource or deposit, it is called ore reserves or simply ore reserves for metal and limestone deposits, coal reserves or simply coal reserves for coal, etc. On the other hand, an ore deposit is defined as a collection of minerals that are profitable, but if market conditions or technological levels change, the calculation of profitability also changes, and therefore the definition of an ore deposit becomes unstable. Therefore, in Japan, the JIS defines the minimum predictable profitability limit for each type of mineral, and the amount of a group of minerals that can become profitable under this minimum limit is defined as a reserve.
