An old town in Toyota County in southern Hiroshima Prefecture. Most of the area is hilly, with the Nuta River flowing southeast along the Sanyo Main Line. The main settlement is a bridgehead settlement where the Sanyo Road crosses the Nuta River, and it developed as a castle town for the Kobayakawa clan. The town practices agriculture, but is also attracting businesses. Many people commute to Mihara City to the east. It is home to Hiroshima Airport, the Mitoshiro Tomb (historic site), and the ruins of the Kobayakawa clan's castle (historic site). In March 2005, it was incorporated into Mihara City along with Yamato Town, Kamo County, and Kui Town, Mitsugi County. 82.19 km2 . Population: 11,147 (2003). 広島県南部,豊田郡の旧町。大部分が丘陵地で,沼田(ぬた)川が南東流,川沿いに山陽本線が通じる。主集落は山陽道が沼田川を渡る橋頭集落,小早川氏の城下町として発達した。農業を行うが,企業誘致も進む。東隣の三原市への通勤者が多い。広島空港,御年代(みとしろ)古墳(史跡),小早川氏の城跡(史跡)がある。2005年3月賀茂郡大和町,御調郡久井町と三原市へ編入。82.19km2。1万1147人(2003)。
