Widia
This was the first cemented carbide invented by K. Schröter and others in Germany in 1923, and sold by Krupp in Germany in 1925. It is made by adding 5-15% cobalt to tungsten carbide and sintering it. It is extremely hard and is used in cutting tools. Currently, it has been improved through repeated improvements, and both the manufacturing method and properties have been greatly improved. Widia comes from the German word wie Diamant (like diamond).

1923年ドイツのK.シュレーターらによって考案され，1925年ドイツのクルップ社が発売した最初の超硬合金。炭化タングステンに５〜15％のコバルトを加えて焼結。きわめてかたく切削工具に使用。現在，改良が重ねられて製法，特性ともに大きく向上している。Widiaはドイツ語wie Diamant（ダイヤモンドのような）に由来する。
