A Muslim kingdom (1489-1636) in western India. It is also called the Nizam Shahi Kingdom. In 1489, at the end of the Bahmani dynasty, Malik Ahmad Nizamul Mulk (reigned 1489-1509), governor of Daulatabad province, established Ahmadnagar as its capital. Along with the Golconda Kingdom to the east and the Bijapur Kingdom to the south, it was one of the three great powers in the Deccan after the breakup of the Bahmani dynasty, which repeatedly fought and united with each other, until it was destroyed by the Mughal army of Shah Jahan.
