Ocean floor metamorphism

Japanese: 大洋底変成作用 - たいようていへんせいさよう（英語表記）oceanfloor metamorphism

Metamorphism under low pressure occurs in the central rift zones of the Mid-Atlantic Ridge and the East Pacific Rise. It is a name for a geological classification of metamorphism, similar to regional metamorphism and contact metamorphism. Mid-ocean ridges such as the Mid-Atlantic Ridge and the East Pacific Rise are thought to be the places where oceanic plates are produced. There is a large surface heat flow and the underground temperature is also extremely high. As a result, the oceanic crust of the ridges is hot enough that recrystallization occurs even in relatively shallow areas. Moisture is also brought into the interior of the crust along the numerous normal faults.

大西洋中央海嶺や東太平洋海膨の中央のリフト帯で起こる低圧力下での変成作用。広域変成作用や接触変成作用と同様に地質学的に分類した変成作用の名称である。大西洋中央海嶺や東太平洋海膨などの中央海嶺は海洋プレートの生産される場所と考えられている。そこでは表面熱流量が大きく，地下の温度も著しく高い。このため海嶺の海洋地殻は比較的浅い所でも再結晶するほど十分に温度が高い。また水分も多数の正断層にそって地殻内部にもたらされている。
