1863‐1930
Dutch art historian. Born in Dwingeloo, he studied at the University of Leipzig in Germany. He established a foundation in the study of 17th century Dutch painting, including that of Rembrandt, and served as assistant director of the Mauritshuis in The Hague and head of the drawing and print department at the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam. His works include "Collection of Materials Concerning Rembrandt" (1906), "Rembrandt Drawings" (1906), and "Catalogue of Critical Descriptions of the Principal Dutch Painters of the 17th Century", a ten-volume set (1907-28).

オランダの美術史家。ドウィンゲローDwingelooに生まれ，ドイツのライプチヒ大学で学ぶ。レンブラントをはじめとする17世紀オランダ絵画研究の基礎を置くとともに，ハーグのマウリッツハイス王立美術館館長補佐，アムステルダム国立美術館素描版画室室長を務めた。《レンブラント関係資料集成》(1906)，《レンブラントの素描》(1906)，《17世紀オランダ主要画家の批判的記述カタログ》全10巻(1907‐28)等の著述がある。
