Beidaihe

A resort located on the coast of Qinhuangdao City, at the northeastern tip of Hebei Province, China. With a marine climate, the average daily temperature remains cool at around 23°C even in midsummer, and coupled with the beautiful coastal scenery, it is a perfect summer getaway from the scorching continental heat of Beijing. When Qinhuangdao was opened to foreigners at the end of the Qing Dynasty, it became a resort for foreigners, with rows of Western-style villas from various countries creating a unique landscape. The Qing imperial family also officially designated it a summer resort, and upper-class Chinese began to live there as well. After liberation, parks and medical facilities were established, and it changed character as a resort for the people.

中国、河北省北東端、秦皇島(しんこうとう)市の海岸にある保養地。海洋性気候をもつため盛夏にも日平均気温が23℃前後と涼しく、美しい海岸風景とあわせて、大陸的酷暑の北京(ペキン)からの格好の避暑地となっている。清(しん)末に秦皇島が開港されると外国人の保養地となり、各国の西洋風の別荘が建ち並び特異な景観を呈した。清皇室も正式に避暑地と定め、上流階層の中国人も住むようになった。解放後は公園や療養施設が設けられ人民の保養地へと性格を変えた。
