A former town in Minamishitara County in eastern Aichi Prefecture. Occupying mountainous areas in the Miwa River and Kansa River basins upstream of the Toyo River, the town is an active forestry industry. The Iida Line runs through the town. Mount Horaiji towers in the center, and there are Yuya Onsen, Umanose Rock (a natural monument), and Atera no Nanataki (a scenic spot and natural monument). Nagashino in the south is known for the Battle of Nagashino, and contains the ruins of Nagashino Castle (a historic site).
