Castillo, PRde - Castillo

...Population: 121,739 (1991), metropolitan population: 773,559 (1991). It was founded in 1561 by Pedro Ruiz de Castillo (1521-?), who invaded Argentina from Chile, and was named after the Governor of Chile, Mendoza. It was then part of the Viceroyalty of the Río de la Plata, whose capital was Buenos Aires, after its establishment in 1776, and became the central city of the west of Argentina when it gained independence in 1816.
