As shown in the figure, this Swiss family produced many famous mathematicians and physicists over the course of about a century from the late 17th century. Among them, three are famous: Jakob Bernoullis (1654-1705), Johann B. (1667-1748), and Daniel B. (1700-82). In addition to their German names, Jakob was also known by the French names Jacques, Johann by the French name Jean, and Nicolas by the French name Nicolas.
