Magome

This area is located in the eastern part of Nakatsugawa City, Gifu Prefecture. It used to belong to Yamaguchi Village, Kiso County, Nagano Prefecture, but in 2005, Yamaguchi Village was incorporated into Nakatsugawa City. In the early modern period, it prospered as a post station at the southernmost end of the eleven Kiso post stations on the Nakasendo road. There are houses and stone pavement that show the time, as well as a monument with Basho's haiku "Sent off and sent off, until the end is autumn in Kiso." It is also the birthplace of Shimazaki Toson, and is known as the setting for his novel "Before Dawn." There is the Toson Memorial Museum and a monument in Toson's writing that reads "From here, the northern Kiso road." There is a hiking trail that crosses Magome Pass and leads to Tsumago.

岐阜県中津川市東部にある一地区。長野県木曽(きそ)郡山口村に属していたが、2005年（平成17）山口村は中津川市に越県編入された。近世、中山道(なかせんどう)木曽十一宿の最南端にある宿駅として繁栄した。当時を示す民家や石畳、芭蕉(ばしょう)の「送られつ送りつ果ては木曽の秋」の句碑がある。また、島崎藤村(とうそん)の生地で、藤村の小説『夜明け前』の舞台として知られ、藤村記念館、藤村の筆になる「是(これ)より北木曽路」の碑などがある。馬籠峠を越えて妻籠(つまご)へ至るハイキングコースがある。
