Japanese: へび座(蛇座) - へびざ（英語表記）Serpens

Its abbreviation is Ser. A constellation visible in early summer, it is bisected by Ophiuchus into a head and a tail. It is the only constellation completely divided into two parts. The western part preceding Ophiuchus is Caputo (head), which consists of three 4th magnitude stars forming a triangle, which is the viper's head, and the eastern part, Cauda (tail), forms a line of stars in the Milky Way. Alpha Serpent is located at the position of the snake's neck, has a magnitude of 2.7, a spectral type of K2, and is located 58" away from it by a companion star of 1.16 magnitude. Its approximate position at the head is 15h35m in right ascension and +8° in declination.

略号はSer。初夏に見える星座で，へびつかい座に二分されて頭部と尾部とに分かれる。二つの部分に完全に分割されている唯一の星座である。へびつかいに先行する西部がカプト(頭部)で，3個の4等星が三角形を描き，これが毒蛇の頭で，東部のカウダ(尾)は天の川の中に一列の星列を描く。α星は，蛇のくびの位置にあり，2.7等，スペクトル型K2で，58″離れて，1.16等の伴星がある。概略位置は頭部で赤経15h35m，赤緯＋8゜。
