Crime of destruction of documents

Japanese: 文書毀棄罪 - ぶんしょききざい

The crime of any act that impairs the utility of documents or electromagnetic records (Article 258 and following of the Penal Code). This includes erasing the contents or signature of a document, or concealing it to prevent its use. The penalty is imprisonment for three months to seven years for documents used by public offices (official documents), and imprisonment for five years or less for private documents (crime based on a complaint). → Document forgery
