Born: 1514. Antwerp Died October 20, 1575. Flemish architect, medallion maker, and sculptor. Brother of the painter F. Floris. He spent several years in Italy in the 1540s. He established his own style, fusing Gothic with Italian Renaissance, which became the dominant style in 16th-century Nordic architecture. He brought Roman grotesque decoration to Flanders. His works include the Antwerp City Hall (1561-65). His sculptures include the choir screen of Tournai Cathedral (72), the monument to King Frederick I of Denmark in Schleswig (50-52), and the monument to King Christian II of Denmark in Roskilde, Denmark (68-75).
