Grimm's Fairy Tales, No. 20. An old donkey is treated poorly by his master, so he runs away and goes to Bremen to be employed by the town's musicians. On the way, he invites a hunting dog, a cat, and a rooster, who are in a similar situation, to join him. At night, they decide to sleep in the forest, but the rooster sees a light in the distance and goes there to find the robbers having a feast in their lair. The donkey, dog, cat, and rooster climb onto his back in that order and shout loudly, causing the robbers to run away. The animals eat their feast and go to bed.

《グリム童話》20番の話。老いたロバが主人に冷遇されるので逃げ出し，ブレーメンへ行って町の音楽隊にやとってもらおうと思う。途中で同じような境遇の猟犬，猫，雄鶏を誘って行く。夜になり，森の中で野宿しようとするが，雄鶏が遠くに明りを見つけたので，そこへ行くと，強盗のすみかで，強盗たちがごちそうを食べている。ロバ，犬，猫，雄鶏の順で背中に乗って大声で叫ぶと強盗たちは逃げ出す。動物たちはごちそうを食べて寝る。
