The oldest Neolithic culture in the south and southeast of the British Isles. Carbon-14 dating places it between 3500 and 2500 BC. Brought in from the continent, they cultivated wheat and barley and raised cattle, pigs, and goats or sheep. Their houses were rectangular with gabled roofs and internal hearths. They left behind a hill of causewayed enclosures (approximately 200m in diameter) whose properties are unknown, such as the Windmill Hill site in Wiltshire.
