King of Prussia and German Emperor (reigned 1888-1918). Grandson of Wilhelm I. In his youth, he opposed his liberal father, Emperor Frederick III, and worshipped Bismarck. However, after ascending to the throne, he opposed Bismarck and forced him to resign, and thereafter developed a new sea route policy under his own leadership. He actively promoted Germany's overseas expansion, but lacked diplomatic skills, and unnecessarily caused conflicts with Britain, France, and Russia, leading to the isolation of Germany. He was defeated in World War I, abdicated during the revolution, and died in exile in the Netherlands. → Related topics Yellow Peril | Hohenlohe | Morocco Incident Source : Heibonsha Encyclopedia About MyPedia Information |
