Flask - Flask (English)

A vessel with a thin cylindrical neck used in chemical experiments for reactions, distillation, measuring volumes, bacterial cultivation, etc. It is generally made of glass, but can also be made of quartz, metal, or synthetic resin. A vessel with a spherical body is called a round-bottom flask, one with a flat bottom is called a flat-bottom flask, and one with a conical body is called an Erlenmeyer flask. Many flasks also have special shapes depending on the shape of the neck or the purpose.

化学実験で、反応、蒸留、測容、細菌培養などに使われる容器で、細い円筒状の首をもつもの。一般にガラス製であるが、石英、金属、合成樹脂製のものもある。容器本体部が球状のものを丸底フラスコ、その底部が平らなものを平底フラスコ、容器本体部が円錐(えんすい)形のものを三角フラスコという。そのほか、首部の形状や用途に応じた特別の形をもつものも多い。
