Weeping Lovegrass

Weeping Lovegrass

A perennial grass of the family Poaceae (APG classification: Poaceae). Also called Chinese hawkweed or Chinese hawkweed. It grows to a height of 0.6-1.2 meters, and in summer produces 20-30 cm spikes that branch sparsely. The leaves are thread-like and slender, about 2 mm wide and 50 cm long. The whole plant hangs down gracefully and beautifully, and grows quickly. It also has strong roots and is resistant to heat, drought, and dryness, and also to poor soil, so it is planted on road slopes and slopes of reclaimed land to prevent soil erosion. The stems and leaves are used as livestock feed. It is native to South Africa and was introduced to Japan in the 1950s. It has recently become naturalized and is widely seen on roadsides, wastelands, and banks.
