Buzen [city] - Buzen

Japanese: 豊前[市] - ぶぜん

A city in the eastern part of Fukuoka Prefecture, facing the Suo-Nada Sea. It was incorporated as a city in 1955. Its center is Unoshima, where the Nippō Main Line runs. Thermal power plants, metal, plastic and IC-related factories are located mainly on reclaimed land around Ushima Port, and in recent years, the city has been developing industrial parks and attracting businesses. Rice, tea and vegetables are cultivated in the inland lowlands, and fruit is grown in the hills. Seaweed farming and small-scale bottom trawl fishing are also practiced along the coast of the Suo-Nada Sea. Many people commute to Kitakyushu and Nakatsu. The Higashi-Kyushu Expressway runs through the city. The area around Inugatake and Kubotayama is part of the Yaba Hita Hikosan Quasi-National Park, and Inugatake is home to a natural habitat of the Tsukushi Rhododendron (a natural monument). Area: 111.10 ^km2 . Population: 27,031 (2010).

福岡県東部，周防(すおう)灘に面する市。1955年市制。中心は日豊本線が通じる宇島(うのしま)で，宇島港周辺の埋立地を中心に火力発電所，金属・プラスチック・IC関連工場などが立地，近年はさらに工業団地造成，企業誘致を進めている。内陸部の低地では米作，茶・野菜栽培，丘陵地では果樹栽培が盛ん。周防灘沿岸でのノリ養殖，小型底引網漁も行われる。北九州・中津両市への通勤者も多い。東九州自動車道が通じる。犬ヶ岳，求菩提(くぼて)山一帯は耶馬日田英彦山(やばひたひこさん)国定公園の一部で，犬ヶ岳にツクシシャクナゲ自生地（天然記念物）がある。111.10km²。２万7031人（2010）。
