A women's magazine launched by Jitsugyo no Nihon Sha in January 1906. It welcomed popular writer Murai Gensai as editorial advisor and sold practical articles on topics such as cooking and child rearing, as well as articles on self-cultivation for housewives. The literary section featured poems by Kawai Suimei and tanka by Yosano Akiko, and also featured serialised family novels, which proved popular with readers. It also changed the previous system of magazine sales, which was based on retailers buying everything at once, and was the first to adopt a consignment system with free returns, which increased circulation. It ceased publication in May 1958. [Ariyama Teruo] Source: Heibonsha World Encyclopedia, 2nd Edition Information |
