A hot spring located in Hachimantai, Kazuno City, northeastern Akita Prefecture. Simple acidic spring, 89-93°C. One of the Hachimantai hot spring resorts, it is located on a plateau at the fifth station (1,090m) of the Hachimantai hiking trail, close to the border with Iwate Prefecture. It is known for its "steam baths," where people lay mats on the ground and take a therapeutic bath using the geothermal heat. It is said to have been discovered during the Hoei era (1704-11), and has long been popular with local people as a therapeutic bath. Hot springs well up everywhere, and the water is plentiful. 秋田県北東部,鹿角(かづの)市八幡平(はちまんたい)にある温泉。単純酸性泉,89~93℃。八幡平温泉郷の一つで,岩手県境に近く,八幡平登山道五合目(1090m)の高原に位置する。地面にござを敷き,地熱により湯治する〈むし湯〉で知られる。宝永年間(1704‐11)の開湯といわれ,古くから近在の人々に湯治場として親しまれてきた。温泉はいたるところに湧き,湯量も多い。JR花輪線八幡平駅からバスで約1時間。
